High Guard Sequence Continued to Omo Plata

Nutritional Ketosis Streak: 24 days

Still barely hanging in there.  I’m scared to imagine what would’ve happened if I didn’t do a little bit of exercise last nite… I definitely would have fell out of ketosis!

My sleep hasn’t been very good these past two nights because of some personal stuff going on.  I wonder if the stress I’m under coupled with the lack of sleep caused a spike in my cortisol (a stress hormone).  … Read More

Physical Activity: Incline walk x 25 min
Nutritional Ketosis Streak: 23 days

I almost broke my streak of remaining in nutritional ketosis!  I have to admit that I was a little disappointed to see my ketones fall to the 0.5 mmol level.  My best explanation for this is that I had 2 consecutive days of minimal physical activity.  Day 47 was spent sitting in airports and airplanes and Day 48 was spent at my job which is primarily sitting at a desk working on a computer.  … Read More

The Importance of Contact

Here’s a video of one of the greatest grapplers in the world, Rickson Gracie, playing with his son Kron Gracie who is now a formidable grappler himself.

Just read this article from Mark’s Daily Apple about the benefits of carrying your child rather than pushing them along in the stroller and I got to thinking about whether this relates to grappling and BJJ and wrote this comment:

“No babies yet… but when they do come around I’ll know what to do!

Funny thing though, not sure if it’s entirely related, in my bjj class, there’s an autistic kid and his dad who come around to train occasionally, and when they’re on the mats wrestling around and doing BJJ the kid really perks up and you can feel a tangible joy emanating from him…

After these articles, I’m now thinking it may have to do with the constant touch and close contact that normally happens in grappling sports that may be having the positive impact on him…

Sports played these days don’t have this kind of close contact now.

Ketones didn’t drop as much as I expected.  Good to be back home.  It’s much easier to eat within the parameters of this diet when I’m at home.  I cook more and have more control over what ingredients go into my meals!

Since I was relatively inactive today but did well with my macros, I’ll guess that my ketones will be stable tomorrow at 0.8 mmol.… Read More

Happy with the ketones this morning!  The Chinese food last night didn’t screw me up too bad today.
