Day 46 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 27, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 46aWeight: 182.6
AM Ketones: 1.0
AM Blood Glucose: 88
Hours of Sleep: 5:31
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: BJJ

20th day of consecutive nutritional ketosis.  Pleasantly surprised to see that my ketones actually went up!

My diet was pretty good today until dinner.  We had a family dinner at a nearby Chinese restaurant which pretty much screwed everything up.  While I only ate broccoli and beef (again I had them hold the corn starch) and some lamb and green beans, as we’ve seen before, you can never be too sure what else they added.… Read More

Day 45 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 26, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 45aWeight: 181
AM Ketones: 0.9
AM Blood Glucose: 86
Hours of Sleep: 6:28
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Surfing x 2 hours

19th consecutive day of nutritional ketosis.  Wasn’t too far off with my guess last night, ketones went slightly higher.  Today was also our last day in Hawaii.

Spent the morning surfing and now my body is pretty exhausted.  I’ve essentially had 7 straight days of water sports which is more physical activity than I’m accustomed to.. but completely worth it.

My macros took a bit of a hit today since I ate quite a bit more carbs, up to 85 gms.  … Read More

Day 44 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 25, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 44aWeight: 180.6
AM Ketones: 0.8
AM Blood Glucose: 85
Hours of Sleep: 7:59
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Surfing x 2 hours, Boogie boarding x 45 min

18th consecutive day of nutritional ketosis.  My guess last night wasn’t too far off.  Today was another beautiful Hawaiian day and  we spent a lot of it outside.  Something tells me Mark Sisson would be proud since I’m typically a desk jockey who rarely gets enough vitamin D.  I am now at least 1 or 2 shades darker than when I first arrived.… Read More

Day 43 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 23, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 43aWeight: 179.6
AM Ketones: 1.1
AM Blood Glucose: 83
Hours of Sleep: 7:45
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Stand Up Paddleboard x 2.5 hours, SNUBA, snorkeling

17th consecutive day of nutritional ketosis.  Minimal weight loss from yesterday, still within normal variation as I’m hovering in the vicinity of 180 lbs.  I won’t be able to declare any progress until I see a sustained and continuous decrease.

Came across a paleo blog where she actually posted every single meal in that she had in a grid for seven straight days.  … Read More

Day 42 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 22, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 42aWeight: 180.4
AM Ketones: 1.4
AM Blood Glucose: 76
Hours of Sleep: 5:29
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: Surfing 2 hours

16th straight day of nutritional ketosis.  I was a little too generous with my guestimate yesterday, but at least it’s over 1.0 mmol! It seems like the only consistent way of getting it at that level is with intense exercise.

Did pretty well with regard to my diet.  Those fries you see were given to my friends!  I also ate a few slices of spam seen in the top left corner.  … Read More

Maui Jiu Jitsu

Posted on January 22, 2013 by BJJ Caveman

MauiJJAfter snorkeling and swimming this morning we had to run some errands, one of which was near a BJJ school I visited a while ago, so I figure I’d drop in again for a class.  Maui Jiu Jitsu is owned by Luis Heredia, a Rickson Gracie black belt (5th degree).  I had the privilege of training with him for a class before and really looked forward to working with him again, but unfortunately he wasn’t at the class today.

The warmup was a typical run around the mat doing various motions (side stepping, high knees, heel kicks etc), followed by front and back rolls and some ab work.  … Read More
