Day 51 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 31, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 51Weight: 178.2
AM Ketones: 0.6
AM Blood Glucose: 86
Hours of Sleep: 6:59
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: Light jogging x 20 min
Nutritional Ketosis Streak: 25 days

I guess my BJJ yesterday and good eating didn’t raise my ketones as much as I expected.  I’m still wondering if the lack of sleep these past couple days along with the increased personal stress is screwing me up.

I’m going to consciously try to really limit my protein now as well to around 80-100 grams now to see if this is the reason I’m not seeing the high ketone levels that others are.… Read More

Day 50 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 50a

Weight: 179
AM Ketones: 0.5
AM Blood Glucose: 85
Hours of Sleep: 5:38
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: BJJ
Nutritional Ketosis Streak: 24 days

Still barely hanging in there.  I’m scared to imagine what would’ve happened if I didn’t do a little bit of exercise last nite… I definitely would have fell out of ketosis!

My sleep hasn’t been very good these past two nights because of some personal stuff going on.  I wonder if the stress I’m under coupled with the lack of sleep caused a spike in my cortisol (a stress hormone).  … Read More

Day 49 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 49a

Weight: 180.6
AM Ketones: 0.5
AM Blood Glucose: 91
Hours of Sleep: 5:55
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Incline walk x 25 min
Nutritional Ketosis Streak: 23 days

I almost broke my streak of remaining in nutritional ketosis!  I have to admit that I was a little disappointed to see my ketones fall to the 0.5 mmol level.  My best explanation for this is that I had 2 consecutive days of minimal physical activity.  Day 47 was spent sitting in airports and airplanes and Day 48 was spent at my job which is primarily sitting at a desk working on a computer.  … Read More

Day 48 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 29, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 49aWeight: 180
AM Ketones: 0.8
AM Blood Glucose: 86
Hours of Sleep: 7:56
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: None
Nutritional Ketosis Streak: 22 days

Ketones didn’t drop as much as I expected.  Good to be back home.  It’s much easier to eat within the parameters of this diet when I’m at home.  I cook more and have more control over what ingredients go into my meals!

Since I was relatively inactive today but did well with my macros, I’ll guess that my ketones will be stable tomorrow at 0.8 mmol.… Read More

Day 47 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 47a

Weight: 181.8
AM Ketones: 0.9
AM Blood Glucose: 83
Hours of Sleep: 5:31
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: None
Nutritional Ketosis Streak: 21 days

Happy with the ketones this morning!  The Chinese food last night didn’t screw me up too bad today.

Spent most of the day traveling and hanging out in airports since one of our flights was delayed (to the left is the view from our delayed flight).  While my breakfast was pretty good, I ended up needing to eat in the airport because of the delay and just picked something up from McDonalds.  … Read More

Day 46 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 46aWeight: 182.6
AM Ketones: 1.0
AM Blood Glucose: 88
Hours of Sleep: 5:31
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: BJJ

20th day of consecutive nutritional ketosis.  Pleasantly surprised to see that my ketones actually went up!

My diet was pretty good today until dinner.  We had a family dinner at a nearby Chinese restaurant which pretty much screwed everything up.  While I only ate broccoli and beef (again I had them hold the corn starch) and some lamb and green beans, as we’ve seen before, you can never be too sure what else they added.… Read More
