Chris Kresser and Chris Masterjohn on Cholesterol Part 1

A reader pointed me in the direction of this podcast on Chris Kresser’s show where he interviews Chris Masterjohn about cholesterol, and I have to say, this is perhaps one of the most informative things I’ve read on the subject.

Chris Kresser is the author of Your Personal Paleo Code and Chris Masterjohn is the author of Cholesterol-and-health.com.

If you want to listen to the whole podcast, you can listen here.

These are my notes from Part 1 (there are three parts in total):

Saturated fat can actually protect against oxidative stress because they are not vulnerable to oxidative degeneration.… Read More

Ivor Cummins and the Cholesterol Conundrum

Posted on March 9, 2015July 30, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

BJJ Caveman Ivor CumminsIn my quest to learn more about cholesterol especially given my history of developing paradoxically elevated LDL-C, LDL-P, Small LDL-P and Total cholesterol after eating low carb (here are my most recent blood lipids), I’ve scoured the net wide and far, even venturing deep into strange forums and comment threads… and still haven’t come across any clear answers.

Neither of Jimmy Moore’s books, Cholesterol Clarity nor Keto Clarity provided any clear answers.

I’ve explored the possibility of coffee being a potential source of increased LDL through the effect of diterpenes, and the effect of certain Apo-E genotypes causing this sort of paradoxical reaction (even looking into the Framingham Offspring source material itself).… Read More

BJJ Caveman Ketonix Sport Review

Introduction

It’s been almost 8 months since I’ve picked up the Ketonix Sport directly from the Ketonix website, and in the interim it seems like the owner, Michel Lundell, has moved over to the Amazon platform.  Currently there are two versions available on Amazon:

  • Ketonix Sport for $124.90
  • Ketonix Sport with Battery for $144.90

When I first purchased this the additional battery wasn’t available so I can’t really comment on how the battery works.

[UPDATE 5/31/2015:

At this point in time the Ketonix is no longer available on Amazon.  … Read More

Posted on February 19, 2015February 19, 2015 by BJJ Caveman

I’ve just been notified that the folks at Athletic Greens are extending their 50% off promotion indefinitely.  The previous deal only lasted through the end of January so the fact that it’s been continued is great news.

Here’s my review of Athletic Greens, and if you want to see some of my other thoughts as well as what Tim Ferriss thinks of this, you can go here.… Read More

The BJJ Caveman’s Random Reading: February 13, 2015

Random Reading February 13 2015

The Bahai’i Gardens in Haifa, Israel, view from atop the 19 terraces towards the ocean.  This is the headquarters of one of the Bahai’i faith.

  1. Supplements being sold in places like GNC, Target, Walmart, and Walgreens have come under fire for not containing what’s on their label.  DNA tests revealed that only 21% of the supplements examined contained the plants and herbs listed on the label.
  2. Stuff like this really makes product testing services like Labdoor all the more important.  I plan on paying the $150 subscription fee to support them and to learn more about how they rated all the things they review.

More Carb Nite and Carb Backloading Tips Part 6

In an effort to stay up to date with all of Kiefer’s prolific work, here is the next series of notes I’ve taken. This is the fourth edition of my Kiefer notes.  Again some of these are from his own site, Body.io and some from when he appears as a guest on other podcasts.

For those that don’t know, Kiefer is the author of both The Carb Nite Solution and Carb Back-Loading, both ways of eating that I’ve been playing around with recently.  Here is the official link to all of his guest appearances.
