Interview with 50/50 Black Belt Seph Smith

Seph Smith Interview 1

I started this project for completely selfish reasons.  Seph Smith is one of the main instructors at my gym, 50/50 BJJ and I had all these questions for him but no real opportunity to ask them.  His schedule is absolutely packed.  The only time I could maybe squeeze in a question or two would’ve been when he’s using the toilet between classes or when he’s in the locker room changing… definitely not ideal.

When I told him about this project, he was gracious and patient enough to set out sometime to let me interview him and snap these photos. … Read More

Review of Kiefer’s T3 Fuel with a Before and After Thyroid Panel

Review of Kiefers T3 Fuel with a before and after thyroid panel

I was immediately curious about Kiefer’s thyroid supplement T3 Fuel ever since he announced it this past October.  I’ve been dealing with an elevated Reverse T3 for the past couple years and have bounced around the spectrum to having a normal thyroid level to being subclinically hypothyroid.

When I started testing my thyroid levels in depth I was experimenting with nutritional ketosis, Carb Nite (cyclic ketogenic diet), and Carb Back-loading (targeted ketogenic diet), and I noticed a slight inverse correlation between my overall carb intake and my TSH (less carbs = higher TSH).… Read More

More Carb Night and Carb Back-Loading Tips Part 7

In an effort to stay up to date with all of Kiefer’s prolific work, here is the next series of notes I’ve taken. This is the fourth edition of my Kiefer notes.  Again some of these are from his own site, Body.io and some from when he appears as a guest on other podcasts.

For those that don’t know, Kiefer is the author of both The Carb Nite Solution and Carb Back-Loading, both ways of eating that I’ve been playing around with recently.  Here is the official link to all of his guest appearances.

Review of Takedown: The DNA of GSP

Review of Takedown the DNA of GSP

I tried to find reviews of this documentary but couldn’t find much out there so I decided to plunk down the $30 myself to pick it up.

This movie is essentially broken down into two acts with the first being the origin story of GSP.

ACT 1

There are interviews with his mom and dad (although never together, which made me wonder if they’re divorced or separated), interspersed with pictures of him as a kid and even footage of him doing karate.  He describes the bullying he experienced and what a proud kid he was despite constantly getting his ass kicked. … Read More

Kresser and Masterjohn on Cholesterol Part 3

Chris Kresser, the author of Your Personal Paleo Code and Chris Masterjohn the author of Cholesterol-and-health.com had a series of interviews on the topic of cholesterol a few years ago, which I just recently stumbled on.  I found these amazingly insightful and chock full of information that I had never come across before, so I decided to take some detailed notes on the interview.

If you want to listen to the entire Part 3 podcast, you can click here.

There is also a link to the entire transcript too.… Read More

Kresser and Masterjohn on Cholesterol Part 2

A reader pointed me in the direction of this podcast on Chris Kresser’s show where he interviews Chris Masterjohn about cholesterol, and I have to say, this is perhaps one of the most informative things I’ve read on the subject.

Chris Kresser is the author of Your Personal Paleo Code and Chris Masterjohn is the author of Cholesterol-and-health.com.

Here are my notes from Part 1.

If you want to listen to the whole podcast, you can listen here.

Here are my notes from Part 2 (there are three parts in total):
