Part 2 of my day in the life experiments (here is part 1). This was a much shorter experiment, and looking back I think I was mainly interested in seeing how a bulletproof coffee (upgraded coffee + grassfed butter + Upgraded MCT oil) would effect my ketones. At least in this case, it looks like it will raise them by 0.1 – 0.2 mmol in the 1-2 hrs immediately after ingestion.
Can I exclude normal ketone variation from this? Nope, but I imagine the more I test it, preferably at various times of days, the more the answer will become clear… but at this point I’m not sure this is something worth testing. I was just curious and at this point… my curiosity is satisfied.
It was interesting for me to see that the ketonix would register moderate and then high within 15 minutes apart for blood ketone readings that were only 0.1 mmol apart.
Hi there, can I ask, why the experiments surrounding ketones? Is it all in aim of cracking why some get a rash while being in ketosis and how to stop it?
Here are a couple things I’m trying to explore that I don’t fully understand in no particular order.
1. Why my blood ketones jump around, and why do I have such trouble reaching higher ketone numbers.
2. How certain foods and supplements affect ketones, and verifying that yes indeed things like MCT oil cause a direct bump in ketones.
3. How exercise affects my ketones, immediately after, the morning after, maybe even 2 mornings after…
4. Whether the sort of exercise I engage in matters, resistance vs cross fit vs bjj vs jogging
5. Do higher ketones matter in the goal of body recomposition?
6. Possible explanations as to why my cholesterol is so high? How this relates to my ketone numbers…
7. The effects of strict ketosis vs cyclic ketosis vs targeted ketosis on the above…
8. The relationship between breath acetone and blood ketones…
9. How ketones affect the rash, and what other possible things can affect the rash…
These are just some of the things I’m trying to explore… Hope it helps! Not sure how close I’m coming to reaching an actual answer… but the fun is in the journey I guess.
