Day 28 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 9, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 28 aWeight: 182.8
AM Ketones: 0.6
AM Blood Glucose: 82
Hours of Sleep: 6:31
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: None

Nice step wise progression of my ketone levels.  I guess I didn’t do enough to meet my prediction of 0.7 mmol.  Still good to be in nutritional ketosis though.  My diet today went a little overboard in terms of the fats as you can see!  Over 200 gm of fat!

Day 28 b

I wonder what this will do to my ketones tomorrow.  I’ve maintained a caloric deficit these past few days too so I expect to see the weight to start dropping off soon.  … Read More

Day 27 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 27aWeight: 183.2
AM Ketones: 0.5
AM Blood Glucose: 84
Hours of Sleep: 7:00
Energy Level: Fantastic!
Physical Activity: Tabata x1 of 60 lb kettlebell swings and burpees.

Finally!  Nutritional ketosis!  I was only a little bit off with my prediction last nite.  Glad to see that I was able to get back into nutritional ketosis after only a few days.  That means my cells are still adapted to metabolize ketones, they just needed to work through whatever carbs and glycogen I had left.

My workout today wasn’t too impressive.  … Read More

Day 26 Nutritional Ketosis

Day 26aWeight: 182.8
AM Ketones: 0.4
AM Blood Glucose: 79
Hours of Sleep: 7:05
Energy Level: Fantastic!
Physical Activity: None

Looks like I was pretty spot on with my prediction for my ketone levels.  0.4 mmol is knocking on the door of nutritional ketosis.  I blame the chilli for keeping me out (it tasted pretty good though).

My fasting blood sugar is also coming down into the 70s which also makes me think that my body is primed to go back into ketosis.

Here’s a look at my macronutrient break down.  … Read More

Day 24 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 24Weight:
AM Ketones:
AM Blood Glucose: 93
Hours of Sleep: 9:24
Energy Level: Excellent!
Physical Activity: BJJ

Had a perfect ketogenic diet today.  Minimal carbs, medium amount of protein, and lots of fat!  This coupled along with my great BJJ session at Marcelo’s should hopefully get my body prepped to resume being in nutritional ketosis.

Unfortunately my ketone sticks were left with our leasing office rather than in my mailbox so I couldn’t check my ketones this evening.  Guess what the first thing I’m going to do tomorrow is?  … Read More

Day 23 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 23Weight:
AM Ketones:
AM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 4:17
Energy Level: Fair
Physical Activity: Walking through the city.

Another day where I forgot to check my blood sugar this morning.  Being on vacation in a different location has really screwed up my normal routine.

Diet was another day of damage control.  Trying to stay on board with a few thing sneaking back in.  This will make my meeting with the ketone strips tomorrow very interesting.

Given my estimated carb intake over the past few days, I’m predicting my ketone levels to be around 0.2 mmol.  … Read More

Day 22 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 22Weight:
AM Ketones:
AM Blood Glucose: 81
Hours of Sleep: 7:49
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: BJJ

Feels kind of weird not having many measurements to report.  At least my blood glucose is still on the low side.  I’ll be positive and take that as a sign that my body is doing something right.

In terms of diet, today was one of those days where I just tried to do as much damage control as possible.  We pretty much ate out the entire day, and I had to employ a lot of the methods I used when following Tim Ferriss’ “Slow Carb Diet” to minimize my carb intake..… Read More
