Bow and Arrow

Posted on December 19, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Tried out a new gym today.  I always get a little nervous going to a new gym, despite the fact that I’ve been to quite a few now and the warmups always fall into either of two categories

1. Old school – including running around the mats, switching to side to side skipping, jumping, running backwards etc.

2. Gracie Barra – perform a series of squats, pushups, and jumping jacks, followed by some ab work.

I personally prefer the old school method because I feel like it does a better job of warming up my body.… Read More

Day 7 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on December 19, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Weight:
AM Ketones: 0.8
PM Ketones: 1.2
AM Blood Glucose: 78
PM Blood Glucose: 79
Hours of Sleep: 7:08
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: BJJ

Don’t have a scale where I am, so it may be a while before I can weight myself again.  Was a little relieved this morning to see that I was still in ketosis.

I think it’s important to remember that the numbers can be unreliable if measured too close to eating.

My plan is to maintain nutritional ketosis for at least 30 days and document the changes that occur.  … Read More

Day 6 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on December 18, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Weight: 179.2
AM Ketones: 0.8
PM Ketones: 0.2
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose: 100
Hours of Sleep: 6:25
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: None

Today was a travel day.  Woke up earlier than we normally do to run some errands, tidy up the house, and then rush out to the airport.

Weight still within normal variation.  A little disappointed with the PM ketones.  We were at the airport and I had some BBQ ribs and beef.  I’m guessing they were generous with the amount of sugar they placed in the BBQ.  … Read More

Day 5 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on December 17, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Weight: 179
AM Ketones: 1.1
PM Ketones: 2.1
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 7:50
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: Tabata intervals x 2 alternating 60 lb kettle bell swings and burpees.   Followed by jump rope.  Total work out time approximately 12 minutes.

Notes:

Slight elevation in weight, but still within normal variation.  Ketones are higher at night than in the day time.  Which is in line with what I’ve been reading.

Day 4 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on December 16, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Weight: 178.4
AM Ketones: 1.1
PM Ketones: 1.1
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 6:50
Energy Level: Excellent!
Physical Activity: None

Notes:

Continued weight loss and continued nutritional ketosis range.  Can’t ask for more.

Energy level is still great despite having less than 7 hours of sleep.  I found that I woke up naturally today before the alarm.

It’s funny, while being on this diet I don’t have any cravings for the binge-fest cheat days I so looked forward to while I was trying to follow Tim Ferriss Slow Carb methodology.… Read More

Day 3 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on December 15, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Weight: 178.6
AM Ketones: 0.6
PM Ketones: 1.6
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 7.5
Energy Level: Excellent!
Physical Activity: 3 sets of Tabata intervals alternating between some combination of 60 lb kettle bell swings, burpees, bent over rows, and pushups.  Total workout time 12 minutes.

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-1]

Notes:

Good to see my PM ketones higher.  Potential differences today are that my workout was in the evening.  The typical time I work out is in the mornings (after my first measurements), and despite the fact that exercise has the potential to raise blood ketones 0.25 – 0.5, that would still put me above a level of 1.… Read More
