Day 5 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on December 17, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Weight: 179
AM Ketones: 1.1
PM Ketones: 2.1
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 7:50
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: Tabata intervals x 2 alternating 60 lb kettle bell swings and burpees.   Followed by jump rope.  Total work out time approximately 12 minutes.

Notes:

Slight elevation in weight, but still within normal variation.  Ketones are higher at night than in the day time.  Which is in line with what I’ve been reading.

Still haven’t been able to get some BJJ training in.  … Read More

Day 4 – Nutritional Ketosis

Weight: 178.4
AM Ketones: 1.1
PM Ketones: 1.1
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 6:50
Energy Level: Excellent!
Physical Activity: None

Notes:

Continued weight loss and continued nutritional ketosis range.  Can’t ask for more.

Energy level is still great despite having less than 7 hours of sleep.  I found that I woke up naturally today before the alarm.

It’s funny, while being on this diet I don’t have any cravings for the binge-fest cheat days I so looked forward to while I was trying to follow Tim Ferriss Slow Carb methodology.… Read More

Day 3 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on December 15, 2012January 8, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

Weight: 178.6
AM Ketones: 0.6
PM Ketones: 1.6
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 7.5
Energy Level: Excellent!
Physical Activity: 3 sets of Tabata intervals alternating between some combination of 60 lb kettle bell swings, burpees, bent over rows, and pushups.  Total workout time 12 minutes.

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-1]

Notes:

Good to see my PM ketones higher.  Potential differences today are that my workout was in the evening.  The typical time I work out is in the mornings (after my first measurements), and despite the fact that exercise has the potential to raise blood ketones 0.25 – 0.5, that would still put me above a level of 1.… Read More

Day 2 – Nutritional Ketosis

Weight: 179.6
AM Ketones: 0.8
PM Ketones: 0.8
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 4.5 hrs
Energy Level: Horrible!
Physical Activity: None

Notes:

Due to unforeseen circumstances I ended staying up later than anticipated and subsequently not getting a good amount of sleep, which pretty much screwed me for the rest of the day.  I was pretty much running on empty all day long.

I had originally intended to go to a BJJ class this morning, but given my lack of sleep, I just couldn’t make it… and I stayed in bed for another hour or so.… Read More

Escapes

Good BJJ session this morning.  I’ve been working on escapes lately.  Reviewed the mount escapes we worked on last week including:

1. Using my arms to frame against their hips, followed by hip bump, hip escape, and pull guard.  We went over the variations in arm position afterwards.  If I’m first shrimping my butt out to my right and bringing my left knee up to my left elbow, Dave, prefers to go for the underhook using the right hand and then use the left hand to block the opponents left bicep to prevent the cross-face.  … Read More

Day 1 – Nutritional Ketosis

Weight: 180
AM Ketones: 2.2
PM Ketones: 1.6
AM Blood Glucose:
PM Blood Glucose:
Hours of Sleep: 7 hrs
Energy Level: Excellent!
Physical Activity: BJJ

Notes:

I’m glad to see that I’m still in the nutritional ketotic range.

I must really starting to benefit from the effects of being ketoadapted.  Before going to BJJ this morning I only had 1/3 a cup of protein shake.  The workout was pretty vigorous and had me breathing hard at multiple points.

Normally when this happens, I get a headache 2 hours post work out and feel completely drained.  … Read More
