Huffpo Blood Test

After a little over three months since I stopped working as a shift worker and fixed a lot of my sleep issues and settled into a fairly regular routine, I thought it would be a good idea to check some of my labs to see where I stood.  I checked my NMR Lipoprofile, Apo B100, Lp-PLA2, Ferritin, fasting Insulin, CRP, Vitamin D, Thyroid Panel, and Testosterone.  Before going into the health test results, here is a brief bit of background.

My last series of tests was in October 2014 when I was trying another round of strictly following the Carb Nite protocol.… Read More

Injury-Proofing My Body Part 1

Injury-proofing my body part 1

I work in the health care field and see the consequences of injuries every single workday. This makes me hyper-aware and probably a little too paranoid of certain things.  As a direct result of things I’ve witnessed:

  • I refuse to ride motorcycles or ATVs.
  • I always wear a helmet and wrist guards when snowboarding
  • I never listen to headphones when jogging in the vicinity of cars.
  • I will never climb a ladder to put up Christmas lights (also I don’t like heights)
  • I have an irrational fear of chain saws and buzz saws
  • I refuse to mountain bike

As readers of this blog know, I’m also fairly active and like to play basketball, weight-lift, Crossfit, and of course train BJJ. … Read More

Review of Kiefers T3 Fuel with a before and after thyroid panel

I was immediately curious about Kiefer’s thyroid supplement T3 Fuel ever since he announced it this past October.  I’ve been dealing with an elevated Reverse T3 for the past couple years and have bounced around the spectrum to having a normal thyroid level to being subclinically hypothyroid.

A Little About My Thyroid

If you’d like to read more about my past, here are some of my previous posts

  • Thyroid Hormone Update: October 2014

When I started testing my thyroid levels in depth I was experimenting with nutritional ketosis, Carb Nite (cyclic ketogenic diet), and Carb Back-loading (targeted ketogenic diet), and I noticed a slight inverse correlation between my overall carb intake and my TSH (less carbs = higher TSH).… Read More

Kresser and Masterjohn on Cholesterol Part 3

Chris Kresser, the author of Your Personal Paleo Code and Chris Masterjohn the author of Cholesterol-and-health.com had a series of interviews on the topic of cholesterol a few years ago, which I just recently stumbled on.  I found these amazingly insightful and chock full of information that I had never come across before, so I decided to take some detailed notes on the interview.

If you want to listen to the entire Part 3 podcast, you can click here.

There is also a link to the entire transcript too.… Read More

A reader pointed me in the direction of this podcast on Chris Kresser’s show where he interviews Chris Masterjohn about cholesterol, and I have to say, this is perhaps one of the most informative things I’ve read on the subject.

Chris Kresser is the author of Your Personal Paleo Code and Chris Masterjohn is the author of Cholesterol-and-health.com.

Here are my notes from Part 1.
