Carb Shock Q&A Notes from Kiefer’s Secret Body IO Podcast

Posted on October 17, 2014June 25, 2015 by BJJ Caveman

Carb shock 1Carb Shock 2

In the past few weeks, Kiefer has been ramping up his marketing for his new Carb Shock supplement, first with a release of a special Supplement Blackbook (which I plan on reviewing later) followed by this special Body IO episode where he answers some of the questions generated by the Supplement Blackbook.

These were only released to Kiefer’s e-mail subscribers.

I just want to clarify that this is NOT the special Q&A webinar that he just had last night on October 16, 2014, one day after the official release of Carb Shock. … Read More

More Carb Nite and Carb Back-Loading Tips Part 4

Posted on October 13, 2014May 9, 2017 by BJJ Caveman

CBL and CNSIn an effort to stay up to date with all of Kiefer’s prolific work, here is the next series of notes I’ve taken. This is the fourth edition of my Kiefer notes.  Again some of these are from his own site, Body.io and some from when he appears as a guest on other podcasts.

For those that don’t know, Kiefer is the author of both The Carb Nite Solution and Carb Back-Loading, both ways of eating that I’ve been playing around with recently.  Here is the official link to all of his guest appearances.… Read More

Great Yahoo article on Lebron James’ low carb, ketogenic diet… except for the dietician that was interviewed

Posted on September 27, 2014February 18, 2015 by BJJ Caveman

Lebron KetosisIt seems like every other day there’s a new article out discussing Lebron James’ low carb, ketogenic diet.

In this Yahoo article they interviewed a gentleman named Jim White, the official spokesman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

He had some quotes that I would like to address.

Problem is, ketones are nasty little buggars. They turn the blood acidic and cause horribly bad breath, nausea, and decreased appetite (which some people might see as a pro). Plus, if the body’s ketone levels get too high, they can prove toxic to the kidneys and liver, White says.

Ketogenic Diet with Dr. Dominic D’Agostino on the Fitness Nerds Podcast

Fitness Nerds Podcast with Dr. Dominic D’Agostino

  • Dr. D’Agostino was also recently on Kiefer’s Body IO podcast
  • It was interesting to hear that he is slowly being swayed by vegans around him and his pretty much cut out all meat from his diet except fish and insect protein
  • He also quoted a study that found that ketogenic diets can actually have a beneficial effect on the gut biome… which is not what Kiefer and Dave Asprey have been saying recently.  Hopefully more will come out about this
  • In response to people who are concerned with the effect a ketogenic diet on thyroid hormone like myself and Ben Greenfield (whom D’Agostino actually referenced), D’Agostino felt that thyroid issues only arise because people are eating too hypocaloric AND/OR are over-training.

Lebron James Going Low Carb

Lebron James Going Low Carb

  • Couple of stories out about how Lebron has recently lost a noticeable amount of weight after switching to a low carb diet.
  • Looks like he might be joining Dwight Howard on his diet journey
  • Here is the link to an ESPN article:

Blatt saw a thinner James at their meeting. James has been focused on cutting his weight by reducing his carb intake since the end of the NBA Finals, and he has lost more than 10 pounds. James’ thinner frame was noticeable in some photos he posted on his Instagram account earlier this week.

CBL and CNSMore Carb Nite and Carb Back-Loading Tips Part 3

Again, trying to do my best to stay up to date with all of Kiefer’s prolific work, here is the next series of notes I’ve taken.  I’ve noticed that at some points I started doing more actual transcription than note taking, so some of these are longer than they’ve been in the past… let me know what you think and if it’s more helpful when it’s longer or shorter.  It’s interesting, with all the interviews and podcasts that he’s done, I feel like we have enough information to write a biography on him if we were so inclined… especially with his recent interviews with Dean Dwyer and Kyle Davies…

Here is my standard Kiefer spiel:

Again some of these are from his own site, Body.io… Read More
