Sunset picture off the shores of Lake Michigan near the town of Frankfort.

  1. Recent post on Chris Kresser’s site stating that it’s actually ok to cook with olive oil, and that it isn’t subject to the common paleo notion (which I previously subscribed to) that heat will induce oxidation of olive oill.  The trick is to make sure you get extra virgin olive oil without any additives and store it correctly.  Here’s a quote that specifically caught my eye: “Being able to heat olive oil opens up cooking options, especially for those who are very sensitive to the effects of saturated fat on their cholesterol levels.

The harbor of Monaco where the people with 10 million dollar yachts feel like peasants compared to the folks with 100 million dollar yachts.  When I was researched Monaco for my trip I learned that that this was the most expensive place on the planet!

  1. One of the books that’s been getting a lot of attention in the past few years is Nassim Taleb’s, Antifragile.  It’d pop up every so often in podcasts that I was listening to that I ended up adding it to my ‘to read’ list.

View of the coast line in the city of Menton in the south of France.  We spent an unplanned night in this beautiful place because of an unforeseen train strike… which is apparently a common occurrence Europe.

  1. Well done 7 minute video about a modern day hunter and why he does it.  The film does a beautiful job of describing what it means to him and what a multifaceted and profound experience it is.  I also respect the fact that he hunts with a bow and arrow (albeit a high tech looking bow and arrow) and not an assault rifle.

This is a scene from the Cleveland Museum of Art Chalk Festival, which is the second oldest in the country, (chalk art first originated in Italy).  The BJJ Cavewife and I took a chalk art workshop in the musem where we learned how to make chalk and some basic techniques.  The BJJ Cavewife who is naturally more talented than me actually took part in the festival and displayed her art.  She’s shy and didn’t want me to show her piece… so we chose this one, drawn by one of the instructors of the workshop.… Read More

Lake Plitvice

Lake Plitvice, Croatia – There were so many beautiful streams and waterfalls here.  The wooden walkways wood often times course right on top of the water, with some occasional splashes that would come up and drench your shoes.  It was definitely a sight to behold.  Unfortunately when we went the entire place was shrouded in mist so we didn’t get a clear view of all the breathtaking cascades it’s famous for… this means we’ll just have to go back!

  1. Even the Huffington Post is getting in on the importance of sleep… things are really hitting the main stream.

The Neuschwanstein Castle, along the Romantic Road in Germany.  This was the castle that served as the inspiration for the castle in Disney’s The Sleeping Beauty.

  1. It looks like the act of writing can produce some amazing benefits like improved wound healing… I wonder if this translates into blogging?
  2. I think if I could move to a village I definitely would… although at this point in my life I think the first question I would ask once I got there would be, “What’s the WIFI password?”
