Imbibing in the Southernmost Bar in the World – The Vernadsky Research Base

Posted on February 26, 2014October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Vernadsky

Enjoyed a shot of vodka with the BJJ Cavewife once we reached the southernmost bar on the planet!

This bar is located in the Vernadsky Research Base, a station that Ukraine purchased form the British for the sum of 1 pound located on the Antarctic peninsula.

While I mentioned previously that I rarely drink alcohol, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do so in this special place.  Apparently the vodka is made on-site… from what I don’t know…. and there are two ways to procure it.

The first is to pay $3 per shot.  The only currency they accept is the US dollar.

The second way is to trade your bra for vodka.

Here is their collection of previously exchanged bras.

Just 1 each… we had to do some more kayaking afterwards.. and I didn’t want to get busted for kayaking under the influence.

Unfortunately most of the people I met was on my antarctica tour itself. We had a brief tour of vernadsky by one of the researchers living out there, but I did not get a chance to make a contact.
