Robb Wolf’s BJJ Training Regimen

Posted on November 7, 2014November 2, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Robb Wolf Ripped2Robb Wolf, author of The Paleo Solution (here is my review), podcaster, BJJ blue belt, and one of the founding father’s of Paleo recently wrote a long and thorough post about what his current training is like at the age of 42 with a goal of competing in the BJJ Worlds eventually.

Given my interest in BJJ and nutrition and paleo, this post piqued my interest on just about all fronts.

From the looks of it, whatever the hell he’s doing is working because holy shit is he ripped!… Read More

The Benefits of Incremental Carb Introduction

Posted on April 9, 2014October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

SarahAbsThis is a post written by Sarah Strange, one of the  trainers at Robb Wolf’s Norcal Strength and Conditioning gym detailing her initial love affair with going low carb and then the subsequent struggles she encountered after going low carb for too long.  She even had some unsuccessful trials with Carb Nite and Carb-Backloading which didn’t seem to help her.

The thing that finally worked for her was:

So what am I trying to say with all this? I’m saying that for any of you out there struggling to reintroduce carbs and continually hitting the wall, that carefully measured, small incremental increases a week might just set you free.

Resistant Starch and Cholesterol

Posted on January 24, 2014October 9, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Airport paintingCurrently at the airport listening to Kiefer’s new podcast called Body IO FM where is first guest is Robb Wolf.  One of the first thing Robb brings up is the topic of resistant starches.  It’s something that he’s been experimenting with lately and he revealed that like me, he also has a sky high LDL-P while eating low carb and going in and out of ketosis.  After doing the resistant starch thing he said that his LDL-P ‘plummeted.’

Much of the resistant starch information has been championed by Richard Nikoley on Free The Animal, but I first got interested when I heard about it from Mark Sisson, Dave Asprey, and Chris Kresser, all within the span of 1-2 months.… Read More

Ketosis and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Took a 2+ hour train ride from Milan to Venice today and I passed part of the time by listening to podcasts.  Episode 209 from Robb Wolf’s The Paleo Solution caught my attention because he talked about his experience with BJJ and ketosis.  It said things along the lines of:

  • He tried a ketosis experiment for 12 weeks
  • Discovered he could chug along just fine in BJJ, but when he needed explosiveness, it just wasn’t there for him
  • He wasn’t as tired at the end of training sessions, but just couldn’t tap into the next level when he needed.

Primal Blueprint 1The Primal Blueprint: Reprogram your genes for effortless weight loss, vibrant health, and boundless energy

I’m not even sure where to begin in my review of this book except by saying two things:

This is the best health book I’ve ever read

And

I wish I had read this sooner

I’m a frequent visitor of Mark Sisson’s site, Mark’s Daily Apple.  In fact I’ve read every post starting from December 2012 when I first discovered his site, around the same time I started my own blog.… Read More

Book Review – ‘The Paleo Solution’ – Robb Wolf

Paleo SolutionThe Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet

I’ve been listening to Robb Wolf’s podcast as a regular part of my podcast rotation for a while now and really enjoy what he has to say.  He is extremely knowledgeable and doesn’t hesitate to call someone an idiot or drop an ‘f-bomb’ here and there.

I figured, since his book was one of the seminal books in the whole paleo movement, it was somethingI should check out.  I’ve heard people mention that at the time it was published there were only 2 or 3 books TOTAL available on amazon on the subject of a paleo diet including this one.… Read More
