Day 44 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 25, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 44aWeight: 180.6
AM Ketones: 0.8
AM Blood Glucose: 85
Hours of Sleep: 7:59
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Surfing x 2 hours, Boogie boarding x 45 min

18th consecutive day of nutritional ketosis.  My guess last night wasn’t too far off.  Today was another beautiful Hawaiian day and  we spent a lot of it outside.  Something tells me Mark Sisson would be proud since I’m typically a desk jockey who rarely gets enough vitamin D.  I am now at least 1 or 2 shades darker than when I first arrived.… Read More

Day 43 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 23, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 43aWeight: 179.6
AM Ketones: 1.1
AM Blood Glucose: 83
Hours of Sleep: 7:45
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Stand Up Paddleboard x 2.5 hours, SNUBA, snorkeling

17th consecutive day of nutritional ketosis.  Minimal weight loss from yesterday, still within normal variation as I’m hovering in the vicinity of 180 lbs.  I won’t be able to declare any progress until I see a sustained and continuous decrease.

Came across a paleo blog where she actually posted every single meal in that she had in a grid for seven straight days.  … Read More

Day 42 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 42aWeight: 180.4
AM Ketones: 1.4
AM Blood Glucose: 76
Hours of Sleep: 5:29
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: Surfing 2 hours

16th straight day of nutritional ketosis.  I was a little too generous with my guestimate yesterday, but at least it’s over 1.0 mmol! It seems like the only consistent way of getting it at that level is with intense exercise.

Did pretty well with regard to my diet.  Those fries you see were given to my friends!  I also ate a few slices of spam seen in the top left corner.  … Read More

Day 41 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 21, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 41Weight: 181.2
AM Ketones: 0.6
AM Blood Glucose: 91
Hours of Sleep: 8:26
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Snorkeling and BJJ

Looks like my guestimate was off.  My ketone levels didn’t change much despite my swimming and running around with toddlers yesterday.  Looking back, I think the problem arose when I was waylaid by some prime rib that I couldn’t refuse.  My macronutrient ratios were looking pretty good up until that point and the large influx of protein from the prime rib probably elicited some form of gluconeogenesis or something that caused my ketones stay low and my glucose to go higher than 90.  … Read More

Day 40 – Nutritional Ketosis

Posted on January 21, 2013October 10, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Day 40aWeight: 181
AM Ketones: 0.7
AM Blood Glucose: 88
Hours of Sleep: 8:04
Energy Level: Excellent
Physical Activity: Swimming, bodyboarding, playing with toddlers!

This is my 14th consecutive day of being in nutritional ketosis!  My ketones slightly increased from 0.6 to 0.7 mmol.  In reflecting on why I’m having so much trouble getting to levels higher than 1.0 mmol, I should try increasing my overal fat percentage to around 80%.

Found an organic grocery store a few blocks down for the place we are renting and stocked up our fridge!  … Read More

Day 39 – Nutritional Ketosis

Day 39aWeight: 179.6
AM Ketones: 0.6
AM Blood Glucose: 88
Hours of Sleep: 6:00
Energy Level: Good
Physical Activity: Swim in the ocean, walk on the beach

My sleep was so short and thus my energy level was down because we had to wake up early for another flight.  My travels have now taken me to Hawaii.  I noticed that my appetite suppression was still in effect since I didn’t start to get hungry until about 6-7 hours after breakfast.  I still haven’t quite gotten to that point where I could forget to eat a meal and accidentally enter into a state of intermittent fasting.  … Read More
