whole30ig

After learning about The Whole 30 from our Crossfit gym and reading It Starts with Food, the BJJ Cavewife and I were ready to begin.

To kick off the Whole 30, we were asked to state our commitment on the Facebook page.

Here is my statement:

“I am committing to the Whole 30. Exception is some white rice for post workout carbs.

I’m also going to be doing some metabolic measurements which I was planning on doing already, so this might go against the whole not taking measurements thing.”

  1. The Caveman Doctor, Colin Champ MD shares is tips for an “Anti-Cancer Thanksgiving,” which includes organic pasture raised turkeys and using grass fed ground beef instead of grain based stuffing, among other things.
  2. In a previous post he wrote about his personal ketogenic diet protocol including the supplements he uses and his preferred workouts.
  3. As you can tell, I’m a fan of his.  He wrote a book titled, Misguided Medicine, if you’re interested in reading more from him.  Here’s a review I wrote on it.

The Whole30

whole-30

Our Crossfit gym recently ran a group Whole 30 Challenge and invited us to join. It was a way to get people motivated and excited about eating healthy in the setting of a supportive community.

They created a private Facebook group where members could pose questions, show off their latest Whole 30 approved culinary creations, or just whine about all the goodies that we missed while doing the challenge.

The BJJ Cavewife and I were both enthusiastic about participating. While we generally ate healthily, we had been getting more lax with our eating habits since the cross country move.… Read More

Up Close and Personal with Molten Lava

lava-1

When I was growing up I thought that there was a high likelihood that I would die from lava  based on all the cartoons I watched like Transformers, GI Joe, and M.A.S.K.  Quicksand and piranhas were also on the list of things I feared dying from.

It was pretty awesome to come face to face with one of these threats from my childhood.  I came within 10 feet of it and it was one of the most beautiful and amazing things I’ve ever seen.… Read More

Kimera Koffee Review

kimera-koffee

I first heard about Kimera Koffee in a sponsored ad on the Ben Greenfield podcast.  Ben espoused the benefits of having nootropics in coffee and how great he felt when he drank this.  He even took to sprinkling in additional boosts like chaga mushroom powder and various other things that created a super potion for him.

After hearing him talk about this enough times, my mind inexplicably went from, “you’re not going to catch me with your fancy marketing” to “hmmm maybe there’s something to this, why not give it a try?”… Read More

ubiome-discount

uBiome recently released a discount code for 50% off of their kits valid through 10/31/16.

Earlier this year I decided to analyze my poop using uBiome.  At the time the tests were going for $89 a piece while a 3 pack was $199, so I went for the the three pack.

I wrote a brief post on the initial collection, Trying Out uBiome, don’t worry there aren’t any nasty pics.

A few weeks later I received my results, uBiome Results from April 2016, where I learned that my gut flora has a lot to be desired.  … Read More
