Review of Takedown: The DNA of GSP

Review of Takedown the DNA of GSP

I tried to find reviews of this documentary but couldn’t find much out there so I decided to plunk down the $30 myself to pick it up.

This movie is essentially broken down into two acts with the first being the origin story of GSP.

ACT 1

There are interviews with his mom and dad (although never together, which made me wonder if they’re divorced or separated), interspersed with pictures of him as a kid and even footage of him doing karate.  He describes the bullying he experienced and what a proud kid he was despite constantly getting his ass kicked.  This was one of his main motivations for getting into martial arts.… Read More

Stuart Cooper Marcelo Garcia

Stuart Cooper recently released his 90 minute documentary on Marcelo Garcia sold exclusively on vimeo for the grand total of $4.

A little about Stuart Cooper

Stuart is a BJJ brown belt who’s currently making a name for himself traveling around the world and spending time training, filming, and interviewing a lot of big names in BJJ.  He used to be a wedding videographer and slowly transitioned into filming BJJ which is his true passion.  This past June, he decided to hold an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to collect donations in order to help in achieve his dream of filming BJJ documentaries full time.… Read More

Limitless Human Potential

If you want to be inspired by the limitlessness of human potential please watch this video.  Not only is he better than me at BJJ, but he fricking summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Every time I think I’m too tired to go in for some training or believe that some obstacle is too difficult for me, I need to remind myself that my mind is the only thing holding me back.  If Kyle Maynard can accomplish the things that he’s done, none of the ridiculous excuses I come up with should even be entertained.… Read More

Royler Gracie Seminar

DSC05151

Was lucky enough to attend a Royler Gracie seminar this past weekend and had the pleasure of seeing one of my instructors, Darren Branch of Gracie Humaita Cleveland, receive his blackbelt.  He did get a little bit emotional, but it was completely understandable since I know how hard he’s worked and how much of his life he has dedicated to BJJ.  It was a long time coming and I’m proud to have been there to see him get promoted.

Obtaining a blackbelt is a process that takes 8-10 years of regular training so it would be hard not to succumb to emotion at such an event!… Read More

BJJ Rank Cloud T-Shirt

Ranked Gear

Wanted to plug a cool T-shirt I came across from Ranked Gear, run by Jason ScullyHere was his premise for these shirts:

I asked hundreds of BJJ players of all ranks what 5 SINGULAR WORDS best describes what it is like to be and experience EACH Brazilian Jiu Jitsu rank. These are all emotions, feelings, and experiences from BJJ practitioners around the world.

Then I collected each word that pertained to each rank and I created Rank Word Clouds that create the rank that each word represent.
