Thanksgiving Training with Renato Babalu Sobral

Posted on November 28, 2013 by BJJ Caveman

Screen Shot 2013-11-28 at 5.18.20 PMGot to start Thanksgiving Day in the best way possible, with a special training session with Renato Babalu Sobral at his gym.

It was a great training session and he helped me drill a guard recovery technique using inversion when my guard is being passed (which happens a lot more than I’d like).

He then taught me a sequence working with the De La Riva guard transitioning to a back take from an opponent on his knees and then from De La Riva guard to side control against someone who is standing.

We spent the last 30 minutes rolling, with him dishing out pointers and allowing some openings for me to apply some of the concepts we went over earlier.  This was definitely something to be thankful for.  Can’t wait to train more with him.

It was a fantastic way to work up an appetite for the impending Thanksgiving monster meal… which happens to coincide with my Carb Nite this week!
