Upgraded MCT Oil vs Upgraded Brain Octane

Upgraded MCT vs Upgraded Brain Octane

Upgraded MCT Oil vs Upgraded Brain Octane

If you want to read a little more about why I’m even addressing this question, you can check out my rough draft version of this post here.  Essentially it’s this:

  • Upgraded MCT Oil is marketed as being more beneficial for stimulating metabolism while somewhat helping with brain function and is 100% Capric-Caprylic acid (says so right on the front of the bottle, I will explain what these are later).

Upgraded MCT

  • Upgraded Brain Octane is marketed as being primarily for improving brain function.

Upgraded MCT Oil vs Upgraded Brain Octane – Rough Draft

Upgraded MCT vs Upgraded Brain Octane

UPGRADED MCT OIL VS UPGRADED BRAIN OCTANE – ROUGH DRAFT

I’ve recently been using both Upgraded MCT and Upgraded Brain Octane and was wondering what the actual difference was between them.  Upgraded MCT is marketed as being better for stimulating the metabolism while Upgrade Brain Octane is marketed as being better for stimulating the brain.  As I was thinking about this, given the little that I know about biochemistry, it didn’t quite make sense to me, so I did what any self respecting n=1 blogger would do… I went to the forums and posed the following question:

I was wondering what is the difference in metabolism between the two, and why Upgraded Brain Octane works more for the brain while upgraded MCT is more for metabolism and brain.

What Are Refined Carbs?

Posted on April 2, 2014October 9, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

superhero-blueThe BJJ Cavewife and a few of her friends are taking part in an online Superhero Unleashed challenge run by Emily Schromm whom we first encountered on one of Robb Wolf’s podcasts.  Since many of the BJJ Cavewife’s friends are new to the whole paleo thing they had a lot of questions about some of the requirements in the challenge, namely the whole ‘no sugar’ and ‘no refined carbs’ thing.  When the BJJ Cavewife couldn’t explain things well enough she turned to me and I wrote this post as way to help them out.… Read More

WARNING: Ketosis Can Trigger False Positives On Breathalyzers

Posted on February 25, 2014October 9, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

DSC04251Apparently the ketones generated while being in ketosis and the acetone being exhaled via the mouth can trigger a false positive on breathalyzer tests!

Came across a few websites discussings this (here, here, here, here, and here).

I wish someone had made this clear to me before I started experimenting with ketosis, especially since I’m often in Los Angeles where they have surprise driving under the infuence stops.

Despite the fact that I very rarely drink alcohol now (because it can screw up fat burning), if I were ever randomly stopped and the officer were so inclined to have me take a breathalyzer test… having a false positive that I didn’t expect would create a whole host of problems.… Read More

VO2 Max and Resting Metabolic Rate on a Cyclic Ketogenic Diet

Vo2 MaxVO2 Max and Resting Metabolic Rate on a Cyclic Ketogenic Diet

In my never ending quest to learn more about my body (with n=1 experiments, blood tests, and a Dexa Scan) I came across the idea of metabolic testing as another way to provide insight into what my physiology is doing.

Luckily I live near the Cleveland Clinic where they offer metabolic testing for very reasonable prices.  They charge $75 for the resting metabolic rate test and $125 for the VO2 Max test.

They were able to squeeze me in on November 18th, which as you can see fell 9 days after my prior carb up day, in the midst of my 10 week Carb Nite cyclic ketogenic diet experiment.… Read More

New Way to Turn Off Hunger

Posted on October 8, 2013October 9, 2014 by BJJ Caveman

Scientists have figured out a way to turn off the hunger center in mice by selectively shining lights into their brains.

Pretty fascinating stuff.
