The BJJ Caveman’s Random Reading: December 14, 2014

Random Readings December 14, 2014

One of the beautifully ornate gates at the Wurzburg Residence in Southern Germany at the start of our drive along the Romantic Road.  It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

  1. When the BJJ Cavewife and I visited Antarctica and kayaked in the open ocean between towering icebergs we felt like we were pretty extreme.  We never imagined there were people crazy enough to do something like this!
  2. Sometimes Journals and the scientific articles they publish are complete jokes… but this one takes the cake.
  3. This is why I only read my cellphone in bed, lying on my belly, with my neck and upper back super extended…  just kidding.  It’s always good for me to read these articles on posture because I’m one of those prototypical computer worker / desk jockey types who’s already susceptible to terrible posture.
  4. Well written tribute to the end of the Colbert Report after an impressive 10 year run.
  5. While this is a few weeks late, I couldn’t resist sharing this kid’s list of reasons to be thankful and her dad’s hilarious comments.  My favorites include, “my butt” and “how pretty I am.”
  6. I’m now adding this to my bucket list!  While I’ve hiked up an active volcano and swam near an underwater volcano, I’ve never boarded down one!
  7. I’ve always been interested in these stories types of stories… rags to riches… then back to rags again.  Antoine Walker, an NBA star who earned over $110 million, blew it all, and is now starting to pick up the pieces.  It’s just amazing how something like that happens and how common it is.
  8. The creativity some people go into in proposing to their spouses is just mind blowing.  This one is truly heart warming.  I admit I got a little misty when watching it.
  9. Fightland explores the evolution of brazilian jiu jitsu, characterizes it in three different waves, and ponders what’s next to come.
  10. Sometimes people are just amazing.  Amidst all the tumult and divisiveness in the news these days… stories like this remind me that it’s not all bad.
  11. I actually though heavy cream and whipping cream were the same thing… glad I read this explanation.

  1. NRC says:

So I guess the critical question is, when Kiefer discussed “heavy whipping cream,” is he referring to heavy cream or whipping cream. This will keep me up at night 🙂
