Could Apo-E genotyping and alcohol be the key to my high LDL Cholesterol? An online anecdote

Cholesterol and Apo E

I’ve been trying to learn more about the relationship between low carb eating and a subsequent rise in both total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol and one of the more informative pieces I’ve come across was this  case discussion by Dr. Thomas Dayspring.

It’s important to note that while he’s a lipidologist with plenty of experience under his belt, the case discussion wasn’t a peer reviewed article or published in a journal.  There was also only one study that was cited which I’ve since downloaded and plan on reading.… Read More

Ketosis And High Cholesterol According to Dr. Thomas Dayspring

Ketosis and high cholesterol and Dr. Thomas Dayspring

In my search to learn more about what the heck the relationship is between ketosis and the stratospheric increases in both Total Cholesterol and LDL that seem to occur in so many people (myself included), I came across this case presentation and write up by Dr. Thomas Dayspring, who is a renowned lipidologist.

He was one of the experts in Jimmy Moore’s Cholesterol Clarity, and has appeared in a number of Jimmy’s podcasts (two of them are here and here).

I carefully went through this paper and did my best to digest, simplify, and summarize it… mainly for myself, but I figured I might as well share it with you guys too.… Read More

The BJJ Caveman’s Random Reading: November 16, 2014

Random Reading November 16 2014

This is a scene from the Cleveland Museum of Art Chalk Festival, which is the second oldest in the country, (chalk art first originated in Italy).  The BJJ Cavewife and I took a chalk art workshop in the musem where we learned how to make chalk and some basic techniques.  The BJJ Cavewife who is naturally more talented than me actually took part in the festival and displayed her art.  She’s shy and didn’t want me to show her piece… so we chose this one, drawn by one of the instructors of the workshop.… Read More

Slightly Ambiguous Carb Nite Tip from Kiefer

This was what I saw in my Twitter feed.  So of course I wondered what could he be talking about?

Volume of training?

He has mentioned a few times that if you’re working out you should cut back on workout volume.

Volume of food on the low carb days?

While he generally says to use your hunger as a guide, he has mentioned that if you aren’t seeing results then you may want to cut back on what you’re eating on the low carb days.… Read More

Keto Clarity – Book Review

BJJ Caveman Keto Clarity Book Review DISCLOSURE: I’ve said this a few times before, but I’ll say it again.  While I don’t know him personally, I like Jimmy Moore.  He’s been a supporter of my site and has personally answered every single tweet and e-mail I’ve sent him.  He was also the inspiration behind my ketogenic n=1 experiments.  I pretty much just copied his n=1 nutritional ketosis experiment when I first read about it. If you’ve been following me at all you’ll know that I’m a big fan of ketogenic diets and have experimented with the different variations:

After all of these experiments, I can say confidently that I’ve learned a lot more about everything ketogenic.… Read More
